Luke 4:2 (New American Standard Bible)
for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days, and when they had ended, He was hungry.
where he was tempted by the devil for forty days. Jesus ate nothing all that time and became very hungry.
where the devil tempted Jesus for forty days. Jesus ate nothing during that time, and when those days were ended, he was very hungry.

He stayed there for 40 days and he did not eat anything. During this time the Devil tried to cause Jesus to do wrong things. At the end of 40 days, Jesus was very hungry.
